Optim Project Management Begins Construction on Dolphinarium Expansion in Constanta
Optim Project Management has been appointed by the Constanta County Council as the general contractor for the much-anticipated expansion of the Dolphinarium in Constanta. The project is valued at 17 million Ron and is aimed at enhancing the region’s tourism infrastructure and driving local economic growth. The work commenced in August, marking a significant milestone in the development of this landmark attraction.
The Dolphinarium expansion involves building a new reinforced concrete pool for training, which will span 628 square meters with a water depth of 5.2 meters, thus ensuring a total volume of 3,094 cubic meters of water. This expansion will bring the facility in line with international standards, ensuring top-tier animal care and offering a more modern, engaging visitor experience.
In addition to the pool, Optim Project Management is tasked with constructing a new, advanced filtration and pumping system that will help maintain water quality at optimal levels. This includes the installation of Protein Skimmers – sophisticated filtration devices used to remove organic waste from the water, ensuring a clean and healthy environment for the dolphins.
Work on the Dolphinarium initially began in 2021, with preliminary excavation of the pool completed at roughly 7%. However, with the appointment of Optim Project Management in August this year, the project has entered a new phase, with construction moving ahead at full speed. The company is now focused on completing the works and delivering a fully operational facility.
The project also includes additional infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of four container units. These units will be used to house essential support facilities, including two rooms for trainers, a food preparation area, storage, two locker rooms with showers, toilets and a mechanical workshop. These elements are important to the smooth operation of the Dolphinarium and will ensure that staff have the resources they need to provide excellent care for the dolphins. Additionally, existing utility networks in the area will be rerouted to make way for the new structures, ensuring the infrastructure can support the expanded facility.
The expansion of the Dolphinarium is a key part of Constanta County’s strategy to enhance its tourism offerings. Located on Romania’s picturesque Black Sea coast, Constanta is a major cultural and leisure destination. The upgraded Dolphinarium is expected to attract a significant number of visitors, both from within Romania and internationally, further solidifying the region’s position as a premier tourist destination.
Optim Project Management brings extensive experience in construction of large-scale projects across a variety of sectors. The company is known for its commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget, with a strong focus on quality and sustainability. With the Dolphinarium expansion, Optim Project Management aims to meet the highest industry standards while ensuring that the project supports the region’s long-term goals for tourism growth and economic development.
